The Crumbles is a long stretch of shingle from the east side of Eastbourne
to Pevensey Bay created by the tidal wash of the sea, forming a natural
sea wall that caused the sea to recede from the low-lying land. It used
to be a haven for wild plants and breeding birds, but alas no longer.
These natural sea defenses have recently been turned into a Marina and
a large housing complex that has destroyed the wildlife habitat.
